PRINCIPLE 4

Mix It Up

We create residential developments that include a variety of housing types and tenures while encouraging attainable housing for community members of all backgrounds and ages.

Positive health and wellness benefits result from:

  • Living in more inclusive communities, which encourages health equity and affordable housing as part of any development.
  • “Secondary housing units” (“granny flats”) within existing neighborhoods, which encourage multigenerational living.
  • Universal accessibility design standards in home-building, which lessen obstacles for disabled buyers to move in to a given neighborhood.

The Public Market

Emeryville, California

At the confluence of Oakland, Berkeley and the Bay Bridge, Emeryville is home to the corporate headquarters of a diverse array of global brands. Our vision for Emeryville’s public market transformed 11 acres of surface parking and dilapidated retail at the heart of the city in to a dynamic mix of uses around a vibrant food hall. Our design of Christie Park anchors the project, reinforcing the location as Emeryville “downtown.”
